MARRIAGE.
At "Shadybrook," Darbalara, on Thursday last, Miss Winnie Pierse, daughter of Mr. John Pierse, of that place, was married to Mr. George W. Last, son of Mr. G. Last, of Fern Hill. The ceremony took place in the forenoon, the celebrant being Rev. Father Donovan. The bride wore a neat costume of grey silk mohair, with panels of silk, the sides being filled in with rows of silk braid ; a cream tucked silk vest ; and hat EN SUITE. She wore a pretty gold bangle, the gift of the groom. The bridesmaids were Misses Fanny and Katie Pierse, sisters of the bride, and were attired in costumes of cream silk, tucked and accordeon pleated, and hats to match. Both wore gold brooches of pretty design, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. H. Quirk acted as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held in the drawing room, the newly wedded couple being overwhelmed with congratulations. Breakfast was partaken of on the spacious verandah, a large number of relatives and friends sitting down to the tables. The chair was occupied by the Rev. Father Donovan, and the vice-chair by Mr. P. Sullivan. The gathering was a jolly one, and a happy time was spent. The rev. chairman proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom in a eulogistic speech ; he had known them for years, and, as a priest, found them everything that young people should be. He wished them every happiness, and hoped their days would be long in the land. Mr. G.W. Last responded in a brief speech, and then proposed the health of the bridesmaids, Mr. H. Quirk responding. The vice-chairman proposed "The Parents of the Bride," and Mr. J. Pierse responded, welcoming all and inviting them to enjoy themselves to the top of their bent. "The Bridegroom's Parents" was proposed by Mr. Morris, and Mr. Last made a humorous reply. He was more than pleased at the ceremony celebrated a few hours previously, and hoped the union would prove as happy as he anticipated : at any rate the bride would always have a Last to sole her shoes. The health of the Chairman was given by Mr. J. Pierse, and duly acknowledged. In the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Last left the homestead, amidst showers of confetti and rice. They entrained at Coolac, en route for Sydney and Melbourne, where the honeymoon will be spent. The wedding presents included ten cheques, a beautiful collection of silverware, household requisites, and a large number of useful articles from the newly-married couple's many friends.
