Tracing Family Branches

 Today's snippet involves my great grand uncle James Albert Worldon.  James was the son of James Baker Worldon and his wife Flora (nee McDonnell).  He was born on 4th February 1904 and died on the 4th of December the same year.  James was buried in the North Gundagai Cemetery in the Church of England Section (see here ).   Source: Trove. While searching for more information about my 4th Great Grandfather James Baker Worldon who was also known as James Baker Waldon/Walden and by the alias 'Milbank Jim' I came across the following newspaper item on Trove which mentions him and which it turns out I had been sent a copy of by another researcher some time ago and had forgotten (Thanks Brian, sorry I did not remember this sooner!). With Beechworth and its surrounding area featuring prominently in my family history and this past Valentine's Day marking the one hundred and sixty four year since my 4th Great Grandfather murdered my 4th Great Grandmother Catherine Rhall near there (see posts here ,  here , here and  here ) I thought that I would post some of our family photographs from trips we taken there over the years.  While it has changed greatly since the days when James and Catherine and family lived there Beechworth is one of our favourite places and I have so much more exploring and research I want to do there when time allows!  Other posts of mine mentioning Beechworth and surrounds can be found here , here , here  and here .  More information on Beechworth can be found here . On the 21st April 1884 my third great uncle Herbert Walter Worldon died from bronchitis at Spring Flat, Gundagai, he was only 10 weeks of age.  The son of James Baker Worldon and his wife Margaretta Jane nee Bell, he was the second of their children to die.  Unfortunately he was not the last as only three of their eight children survived infancy.  He was buried on the 22nd of April 1884 at North Gundagai Cemetery. My Great Great Grandfather James Baker Worldon for a time ran a grocery store in Gundagai and this was one of the advertisements he had for it.  It is quite an extravagant claim to stock everything you eat except mushrooms, advertising standards were obviously different then!  More posts about him and his business can be found here , here , here , here  and  here . Today’s post involves my third great grandmother Margaretta Jane Worldon nee Bell.  The daughter of William Bell and his wife Eleanor nee Sneed she was born at Sutton Forest, New South Wales in 1860.   In 1878 she married James Baker Worldon at Mundarlo, New South Wales.  Together they had eight known children, five of whom tragically died in infancy.  Margaretta died in 1939 at her home in Gundagai and was buried at the North Gundagai cemetery.
