Tracing Family Branches

Life has been very busy of late and this blog has been rather neglected yet again unfortunately .  Our house renovations have started in earnest and are moving along nicely, in spite of all the wet weather we have had lately!  Our new roof is nearly finished and it is such an improvement.  We have also started Homeschooling the grandchildren recently, which is proving to be very beneficial for all and so much fun! My father's Uncle, Harold James O'Connor was born in Cobar, New South Wales on the 10th May 1897, the fourth son of Michael O'Connor and his wife Elizabeth Phoebe nee Walker.  Dad told me a number of stories about his Uncle Snowy, one of which I have previously posted about Harold here .  According to Dad Harold had ended up in Bourke, New South Wales.   I found a death registration for a Harold O'Connor who died at Bourke in 1971, many years ago and put it on my wish list of BDM certificates.  On Mother's Day this year my son order...

 Today's memoriam is for Roma Marguerite O'Connor is my first cousin once removed and this memoriam was published two years after her death.  Roma was the daughter of my Great Aunt Elizabeth Minnie O'Connor and an unnamed Father, who sadly died in Cobar on the 12th February 1932 at just two years of age from gastro enteritis.  Roma was buried in the Roman Catholic section of Cobar Cemetery on the 13th February 1932. My father told me that he was told that she was a gorgeous little girl, who was loved and adore by all of the family.  I have previously posted about Roma here . Today's obituary is for Roma Marguerite O'Connor, who is my 1st cousin once removed.  Roma was the daughter of my Grand Aunt Elizabeth Minnie O'Connor (known as Minnie) and an unnamed father. One of the family stories that my father told me about his family involved his Uncle Harold O'Connor.  According to family legend, during the First World War my Great Grandfather Michael O'Connor had forbidden his sons to enlist, as he was anti-British and did not want them fighting for the King.  This position apparently caused more than a few issues for them with other community members and there was mention of white feathers being received.  Things took a turn in 1917 when one of the boys, Harold O'Connor was arrested for assaulting a recruiting officer in Cobar and was subsequently committed for trial.  His arrest was reported in the Gilgandra Weekly Newspaper (see article below) and also in the: New South Wales, Australia, Police Gazettes, 1854-1930 Name: Harold O'Connor Birth Year: abt 1898 Age: 19 Event Place: New South Wales, Australia Event Type: Assault ...
