Today's post involves my 1st cousin three times removed Ada Edna Polsen and her marriage to Charles Smith at Gundagai in 1929. A post about Ada’s parents wedding can be found here.
SMITH-POLSEN
A pretty wedding was celebrated in St. John's Church, Gundagai, on Wednesday last, when Mr. Charles Smith, of Moss Vale, and Miss Ada Edna Polsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Polsen, of Hospital Hill, Gundagai were married. Miss Flo McCarthy played the Wedding March, as the bride (who looked sweetly pretty) entered the Church, on the arm of her father. The Rev. S.G. Davis tied the nuptial knot.
The bride was gowned in a pretty frock of crepe de chene, and a beautiful long embroidered veil was arranged mob cap fashion over a wreath of orange blossoms. She carried a beautiful bouquet of white dahlias and fern (the gift of Miss Lizzie Hawke) and wore a gold diamond broach (gift of bride-groom). The bride's sister, Miss Doris Polsen, made a dainty bridesmaid, in a beautiful frock of pink crepe de chene, the skirt part formed of silk lace, and a pretty pink picture hat to match. She carried a beautiful bouquet of pink cosmas and fern, and wore a gold signet ring (gift of the bridegroom). Mr. Steve Polsen (brother of the bride) acted as best man.
The Church was prettily decorated by the bride's friends. After the ceremony the bridal couple motored to the brides' parents' home in Torr-street, where the reception was held, and 50 guests were entertained. The tables were beautifully decorated with pink dahlias and Easter daisies and the room was decorated with pink and white streamers and horse shoes. Mrs. Polsen, the bride's mother, looked dainty in a pretty frock of blue silk morocain. The toasts of bride and bridegroom, bridesmaid and parents were given by the Rev. S.G. Davis; and Mrs. Davis on behalf of the Girls Friendly Society said the bride would be greatly missed by her girl friends.
The bride travelled in a pretty blue crepe de chene, trimmed with beautiful silk lace, hat to tone, and covered her frock with a grey tailored coat. The happy couple left by train for Moss Vale. Their future home will be at Gundagai.
The presents were costly and numerous, including many cheques, and a beautiful bible (gift of Rev. and Mrs. Davis).
