I have previously blogged about my my first cousins two times removed Sylvester Gervase and Frances Eulalie Donnelly (see here ), when they survived a bad experience at the beach.  Today's post about them unfortunately does not have a happy ending. Over forty years after that day at the beach tragedy was to befall the siblings at a level crossing in wet conditions. Source: Woman Dies In Crash At Crossing. (1950, November 25). Trove Tuesday: Wilful murder

Today's article has really piqued my curiosity.  It involves the charging of one James Walden with the murder of his 'wife' Catherine Walden at Beechworth in 1855.  My 4th Great Grandfather was James Baker Walden later known as James Baker Worldon and his 'wife' was Catherine Rhall.  Catherine had married a convict John Casey in 1835. She is also known to have had a relationship with John Glithero/w another convict to whom she had at least three children (Sarah b.1840, William b.1843 and Richard b.1845) before her relationship with James Walden/Worldon.  James and Catherine had at least two children together, Elizabeth b.1850 and James Baker b.1853.  While we know that James died in Gundagai in 1878, Catherine's fate has not been definitively proven yet.  A Catherine Rall died in Bathurst in 1856, but there is no proof that this was our Catherine.  A point of interest is that Catherine's immediate family were in the Beechworth area in the 1850's, her ha

Trove Tuesday: Knew the Bushrangers and how to beat them.

Today's Trove Tuesday article concerns my Great Great Grandfather Joseph Robert Jones, his death and bushranger tales from his younger days that he liked to tell.  Unfortunately it seems he was guilty of embellishment as he was born in 1857 and Ben Hall died in 1865 making it highly unlikely that Ben Hall's gang had robbed him as described in the article.  That is not to say that he wasn't held up, it just probably wasn't anyone associated with Ben Hall's gang.  He does sound like a very good story teller though and obviously enthralled his audience with his bushranger tales! Sometimes life just gets in the way!

Well it has been an eventful year so far and this blog has been woefully neglected unfortunately.  My caring role has been taking up a lot more of my time lately with my husband having the first of four planned surgeries for the year and my mother suffering from multiple illnesses and a broken leg.  I have also been babysitting my wonderful Granddaughter while her parents are busy working and studying. Grace is a source of great delight and has brought so much happiness and love into our lives.  I am firmly of the opinion that this is the best phase of my life so far!  I love being an Oma ♥
